What Is Low Pressure Cleaning?

Published on: November 27th, 2022

One of the reasons many of our customers choose Chemwash is because we use a low pressure cleaning system. You may have also heard it referred to as soft washing. Chemwash was actually the very first exterior cleaning company in New Zealand to utilise low pressure cleaning techniques. When we were founded in 1981, everybody else used high pressure water blasting. So, what makes low pressure washing so much better?

Safer On Surfaces

To understand why soft washing is superior, you first need to understand the alternative: high pressure water blasting. This is the most aggressive and abrasive approach to exterior cleaning. It relies on sheer water pressure to do all of the tough cleaning work. The main drawback with this system is that there is a high risk of actually damaging the very surfaces you are cleaning! Damage can include removing a thin layer of the surface, stripping paint, or even breaking windows. Despite this however, high pressure water blasting is still commonly used throughout New Zealand today.

Low pressure washing, on the other hand, is a much more gentle approach. This is because it does not rely on sheer pressure to do all of the cleaning work. Instead, the Chemwash system uses biodegradable, salt-based detergents to ease away the dirt and grime. These detergents were developed by a leading industrial chemist to be tough on build up, but harmless to people, pets and the surrounding environment. This means we only need to use water pressure of around 600-1000psi, compared to 2000-5000psi for most water blasters. This lower pressure allows us to clean literally any exterior surface with no risk of damage at all!

Longer Lasting Results

So, does lower water pressure mean inferior results? Absolutely not! In fact, we would argue the opposite. With our system, we can achieve the same if not better results compared to water blasting, every time. But wait, there’s more! Not only does our system clean, it also sterilises your surfaces at the same time. This means that future growth of mould and moss will be actively prevented in the long term. Not only will your surfaces look great then, they’ll also stay that way for longer. Happy days!

Less Water Usage

Another benefit of low pressure washing is that we don’t need to use as much water. Environmental sustainability is a big priority for us, and we are always looking for new ways to reduce our impact. This is yet another reason why we have continued to opt for soft washing over the years.  As mentioned earlier, the water pressure we use is at least half that of water blasters (often even less). This means that our water savings add up really quickly!
